Former Germany star Oliver Bierhoff believes that his international teammate Jurgen Klinsmann is thought to be one of the contenders to replace Roy Hodgson.
Klinsmann has long been linked with the role as the England national team manager. He came to prominence in the managerial world by leading Germany to a semifinal finish in the 2006 World Cup. Since then, he has developed a reputation for being a great national team manager rather than a club manager. He has been linked with the England managerial job on a few times, but has lost out to other contenders on all occasions.
Even though he is a German national, he has connections with England from his time with Tottenham Hotspur. Being multilingual also helps Klinsmann, who is now one of the favourites to succeed from Hodgson. The former Liverpool manager stepped down from his position after yet another disappointing major tournament. England failed to even reach the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016. This was the second consecutive tournament in which England have failed to achieve even the lowest expectations. Hodgson’s future as the England boss was in doubt coming into the tournament. He wasted no time in announcing his resignation. Klinsmann is in competition with the likes of Sam Allardyce, David Moyes, and Steve Bruce for the position.
“He (Klinsmann) would be a good fit. We started in 2004 together and he’s not always, how can I say…nice to handle because he wants to change. But he brings motivation, he has the courage to make difficult decisions and perhaps you need something like this.Since the arrival of Jurgen Klinsmann – I think he is in discussion with England – we gave the national team a certain pride, atmosphere and organisation. The success of the story is the high quality, but also the good organisation and good atmosphere we have in the group,” saidBierhoff.
