Veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel has stated that Tottenham Hotspur are gunning for a title in the 2013-14 season and the American is not ruling out a challenge for the Premier League as well. The North London club came very close to securing a fourth place in the Premier League and secure European football for next season before missing out on the last day of the season to fierce rivals Arsenal.
The club is determined to set things straight this season with the North London club confident they have the players and management personnel to compete with the elite of English football. Friedel has admitted that a return to the elite level of European competition remains the top priority for the White Hart Lane club under the tutelage of manager Andre Villas Boas but the veteran American goalkeeper is also hoping to lay his hands on a major trophy before he calls time on his playing career.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Brad Friedel mentioned that the players and management at the club are looking forward to the new season with a lot of positivity. He mentioned that he doesn’t see any reason why the club cannot finish in the UEFA Champions League qualifying positions. He went on to add that deep down, the players don’t want to stop at just that and are eager to get their hands on a trophy. He further admitted that if they can mount a challenge for the title, they will do so till the end of the season.
Brad Friedel found himself as the understudy of French international keeper Hugo Lloris for much of last season but he has admitted that he is entirely fine with it as long as the team succeeds on the field and hopes to play his part in determining the club’s fortunes.
