Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has stated that outgoing manager Tim Sherwood can be proud of his achievements within the club. Sherwood was sacked from the managerial role after failing to get the club into the top four of the Premier league. However, he leaves the club with the best record ever from Tottenham manager with a win rate of more than 50%. Sherwood did a great job to stabilise the club after they had just parted company with Andre Villas-Boas midway through the season.
Tottenham had failed to score enough goals to bring justice to the spending of more than £ 100 million in the summer. Upon the arrival of Sherwood, the team started scoring goals again. Despite this, chairman Daniel Levy is thought to be very unhappy with the way the club was run during the regime of Sherwood. Sherwood was openly critical of a number of his players, while summer signings like Paulinho and Erik Lamela rarely got a look in to the team. Despite this, he has found one of his supporters in the form of Friedel, who has stated that Sherwood can be happy with his record at the club.
Friedel has been relegated to the number two position due to the form of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
"To us players Tim's sacking was never inevitable. I thought Tim, especially in his first managerial job, conducted himself very well. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He was asked to take control on an interim basis (after the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas in December) with players who weren't necessarily his and I think he did really well. What transpires in the board room, players aren't privy to, much of the time, but I think Tim can walk away from this with his head held high,” said Friedel.
