BRAD BACKS BAYERN

Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has said that he wants to Bayern Munich to win the Champions League final on Saturday because it would mean that their chance of playing in the group stages of the Champions League will remain intact.

Tottenham finished the Premier league season in the fourth position, which is a major disappointment considering they had a 13 point advantage over Arsenal only a few months ago. However, poor run of form in the last few months had put them on a real danger of missing out on the Champions League, but they scraped through in the end.

Yet, there still remains a good chance of them missing out on the Champions League if Chelsea win the final on Saturday. It has been a remarkable season for Chelsea as they have struggled in the league under Andre Villas-Boas. However, since the arrival of Roberto di Matteo in March, they have been quite brilliant. They have made it into the Champions League final after beating the likes of Napoli, Benfica, and Barcelona on the way. Now, if Chelsea win the competition, then they will qualify from England as the holders of the competition. It would also mean that Tottenham would have to be content with Europa league.

This is the reason for Brad Friedel to support Bayern Munich in the final, which will be like a home game for the Germans. “Normally, I would actually want the English team to win. I have played against many of the Chelsea guys, I know them, and you’re always friendly at least professionally with them. But this time, I want Bayern to win because it will put us into the Champions League slot for next season, which I think we deserve. Over 38 games we finished ahead of Chelsea in the standings — so I hope Chelsea lose,” said Brad Friedel.
