Brad Friedel says that he does not expect Hugo Lloris to leave

Former American International goalkeeper Brad Friedel says that he does not expect Hugo Lloris to leave Tottenham in the summer.

The Frenchman has been consistently linked with Manchester United, who will be in the market for a new goalkeeper should they lose David de Gea to Real Madrid. The 28-year-old is seen as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League. It was a signing that effectively brought an end to Friedel’s career as a first choice goalkeeper in the league. For more than a decade, the American was able to keep himself fit and maintain a consistent form across clubs like Blackburn and Aston Villa.

The arrival of Lloris, though, was a death kneel for the 41-year-old, who recently retired from the game. Speaking about the future of Lloris, Friedel reckons that it would take an astronomical sum of money to convince Tottenham about selling their star goalkeeper. Due to a fragile defence, Friedel believes that the importance of a top goalkeepers like Lloris is even more pronounced. The former Blackburn Rovers shot stopper says that he has not seen any signs of Lloris being unsettled as a result of the interest from United. The Frenchman has started the opening three league games for Spurs.

"For me personally, I don't foresee that transfer even remotely starting up. Hugo is a Tottenham player, he is the Tottenham captain and he will be a Tottenham player, and I don't see that changing. I don't even think we need to discuss that possibility, and I mean that sincerely. It's completely down to the player and his attitude. From my limited experience playing against David de Gea and speaking to him briefly after games, he seems like a really good guy,” said Friedel, who spent four years at White Hart Lane in the colours of Tottenham.
