Brad Friedel Does Not Expect Liverpool To Sign New Goalkeepers This January

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has seen players of position struggled to perform well at Liverpool under several managers.

Jurgen Klopp brought in Loris Karius as an option in the summer. After having managed to replace Belgian Simon Mignolet for much of the first half of the campaign, the German has lost his place in the Liverpool first-team. Both goalkeepers, though, have failed to provide confidence, as they have committed grave mistakes in the past. Even then, Friedel does not expect Klopp to step into the transfer market in January and strengthen the goalkeeper position.

Instead, Friedel says thatKlopp could work with what he has got and try to improve those players. After having been a stellar manager with Borussia Dortmund,Klopp came to the club just over a year ago and he has already achieved immense success. No longer are Liverpool a team fighting to finish in the top four, but they are regarded as genuine title contenders this season.

One of the few things in their armour has been the defence, while they have been let down badly by the goalkeepers. Friedel used to play for Liverpool, albeit for a short period of time, and he is aware of the huge pressure that comes as a result of being between the sticks at Anfield.

"I would think Jurgen Klopp is looking at the overall performances and really focussing on that and thinking how he can win the next game.In the January transfer window it is difficult to sign players that are the game changers. In January i don't think he will focus on a goalkeeper change. I think he will focus on how he can make the goalkeepers he has better. He chose to put Mignolet and they've got results,” said Friedel. Liverpool have the second worst defensive record amongst the top six teams.
